Top 10 Most Popular Servers in Sven Co-op for 2017

Here’s a yearly top listing. I decided to do something nobody has really done before. It took a while to keep tracking of the numbers, so tell me if you like it. Here are the top 10 most popular servers in Sven Co-op. My popularity rates are based on player averages from GameTracker.com and GameServerDirectory.com as well as trend lines.

#1: [ES] Half-Life Campaigns

Player Average: 16
Peak: 28
Trend: Up

[ES] Half-Life Campaigns is basically the go-to server for playing Half-Life cooperatively. It’s the behemoth of Sven Co-op. It’s also the 3rd most popular Half-Life Server* and the most popular Sven Co-op server of all time. Players here are from all over the place and it’s a very universal server in that sense. Whether you’re a morning bird or a night owl the server is at least half-full 24/7, so you can play Half-Life with friends any time of the day.

#2: twlz | Twilight Zone

Player Average: 13
Peak: 32
Trend: Steady

Twilight Zone is the European hotspot for playing pre-4.0 style Sven Co-op. It’s the most popular custom map server. The server mostly runs custom maps of the classic, hardcore kind. Most players are just there to have fun and mess with the sound plugins. There are an upper half that are there to play classic, custom Sven Co-op maps and get a kick out of a real challenge. The server concentrates around 10:00 AM CMT and it’s a fairly open community for European players.

#3: Misfire’s SCXPM

Player Average: 6
Peak: 20
Trend: Down

Misfire’s SCXPM Server is the center for SCXPM play on Sven Co-op, running a custom version of SCXPM. It’s also the most popular SCXPM server. It’s a pretty tightly knit community with a lot of its population coming from community support. But it’s also the center of gravity for players that want an XP experience with custom Sven Co-op maps.

#4: Sven Co-op Argentina

Player Average: 7
Peak: 21
Trend: Up

Sven Co-op Argentina has seen a huge boost in popularity recently, and perhaps with good reason. They’re the hotspot for SCXPM custom map gameplay in Latin America. The SC Argentina community tends to be all over the place and is pretty prolific in terms of producing Sven Co-op consumables like maps and addons. Players here are mostly from South America as they enjoy a ping advantage over having to connect to a European or North American server.

#5: El Cubo #2

Player Average: 5
Peak: 12
Trend: Up

El Cubo, or “The Cube” in Spanish, is the survivalist’s chill-zone. This is the most popular server for survival gameplay and adds a ping advantage for South American players. It’s a pretty localized community but survivalists tend to gravitate here for its popularity and uniqueness, being that its one of the few Sven Co-op servers that offers survival with various maps.

#6: [ES] Vanilla Server

Player Average: 5
Peak: 16
Trend: Down

The [ES] Vanilla Server is basically the solution of moderation and variety to the [ES] Half Life Campaign server. The server is fresh-out-the-fridge vanilla with no plugins or custom maps. Half of the players here are from the ES community and the other half are usually casual players or newbies looking for a quieter more original Sven Co-op experience.

#7: Half-Life Anti-Rush Server

Player Average: 5
Peak: 12
Trend: Down

The HL Anti-Rush server is the European answer to a moderate Half-Life cooperative experience that focuses on playing the game as opposed to rushing maps. It’s a European-oriented community with players focused on playing an elapsed Half-Life campaign.

#8: [HDLM-BR.net] Sven Co-op Brasil

Player Average: 4
Peak: 16
Trend: Up

SC Brasil is a South American-based server that is effectively the Latin American answer to Twilight Zone in Europe. Players in Latin America looking to get a good ping and enjoy playing a vanilla custom map experience at their proper times of day gravitate towards this server.

#9: [EU] SC5.eu

Player Average: 5
Peak: 14
Trend: Down

SC5.eu is a European server that offers an SCXPM-style gameplay with mostly vanilla maps. Players here are usually from Europe and prefer a blanket-XP experience as opposed to saving the vanilla maps for vanilla gameplay.

#10: [ES] Custom Maps SCXPM Server

Player Average: 4
Peak: 11
Trend: Up

The [ES] Custom Maps server is basically the [ES] commmunity’s answer to its community members wanting to play more gritty custom maps with an SCXPM experience to back it up. It rotates through a small set of vanilla and custom maps.

So it looks like the two titans of Sven Co-op are [ES] Half Life Campaigns and Twilight Zone. No other servers come anywhere close. The good news is that there has been an increase in player influx in Sven Co-op, so hopefully we’ll get more new players to get in the game.

*I discarded CSDuragi and HLTR because they cheat by flooding their slots with bots, which GameTracker doesn’t notice.
